The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 16, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 21, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 12–0, to recommend that the House kill it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on March 7, 2012. On March 15, 2012 the House rejected a motion to kill it on a voice vote. A floor amendment (2012-1127h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 15, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 28, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 26, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1989s). The committee's amendment (1989s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 9, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 9, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 30, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1989s (Rep C.McGuire)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 13, 2012, making it Chapter 216 of the session laws.
