The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 13, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–3 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0511h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0511h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 22, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On February 22, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 288–9. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1863s). The committee's amendment (1863s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 2, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 2, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 15, 2012 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM #1863s(NT) and Requests C of C (Rep L.Ober)” on a voice vote. On May 23, 2012 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Houde. A committee of conference met on May 29, 2012 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill.
