The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 6, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 15, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2012. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1518s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1518s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 11, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On April 11, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 9, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1518s (Rep L.Ober)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 17, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 29, 2012, making it Chapter 88 of the session laws.
