The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Fish and Game and Marine Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 14, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House kill it, and the minority recommended that the House pass it, by a vote of 10–4. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 22, 2012 the House rejected a motion to kill it on a roll call 171–174. On February 22, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 181–165. It crossed to the Senate on March 28, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 10, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-2227s). The committee's amendment (2227s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 16, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 16, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 30, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #2227s (Rep Newton)” on a division vote 224–36. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 13, 2012, making it Chapter 209 of the session laws.
