The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 14, 2012. The committee voted 13–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 22, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1551s). The committee's amendment (1551s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 18, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On April 18, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 30, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1551s (Rep Swinford)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 13, 2012, making it Chapter 208 of the session laws.
