The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 14, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 16–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 7, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 30, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-2230s). On May 16, 2012 the Senate adopted “Without Objection Rule 3-7 is Suspended to Allow Non-Germane Amendment 2230s, 2/3 necessary”. The committee's amendment (2230s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 16, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 16, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 30, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #2230s(NT) (Rep Rowe)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 13, 2012, making it Chapter 207 of the session laws.
