HB 127-FN (2012)

relative to the definition of oral communication.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 65

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 20, 2011. The committee held work sessions on February 8, 2011, February 15, 2011, February 22, 2011 and March 9, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 9, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 27, 2011, October 5, 2011 and October 20, 2011. The committee met in executive session on October 20, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2702h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2702h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 4, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On January 4, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 8, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 25, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 15, 2012, making it Chapter 65 of the session laws.
