The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2012. The committee met in executive session on January 31, 2012 and February 7, 2012. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0459h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0459h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 15, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On February 15, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 15, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 11, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 18, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 2, 2012, making it Chapter 26 of the session laws.
