The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2011 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 8, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2011-0720s), offered by Sen. White, was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2011 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 14, 2011. The committee held a work session on April 21, 2011. The committee met in executive session on April 21, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1479h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 4, 2011. The committee's amendment (1479h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 4, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On May 4, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 25, 2011 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Prescott. On June 1, 2011 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for C of C (Rep Hunt)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 7, 2011 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The House adopted the conference report (2310c) on a voice vote. The Senate adopted the conference report (2310c) on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2527e) was adopted on June 22, 2011. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2011-2527e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2011, making it Chapter 249 of the session laws.
