The Story

A floor amendment (2011-1240s), offered by Sen. Bradley, was adopted on a voice vote on March 30, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 30, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 31, 2011 and was referred to the House Special Committee on Public Employee Pensions Reform committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 13, 2011. The committee held work sessions on April 18, 2011, April 21, 2011 and April 26, 2011. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1577h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 4, 2011. The committee's amendment (1577h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 4, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On May 4, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 276–29. On May 4, 2011 the bill was referred to the Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 11, 2011. The committee met in executive session on May 24, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 24–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On June 1, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On June 8, 2011 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. On June 8, 2011 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for C of C (Reps Hawkins and Weyler)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 14, 2011 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The House adopted the conference report (2390c) on a voice vote. The Senate adopted the conference report (2390c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 13, 2011, making it Chapter 248 of the session laws.
