The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2011 and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 3, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-0793s). The committee's amendment (0793s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 23, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 23, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2011. The committee held work sessions on April 12, 2011 and April 19, 2011. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1452h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1452h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 4, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On May 4, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 4, 2011 the bill was referred to the Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 17, 2011. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 25, 2011. On May 25, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 350–28. On June 8, 2011 the Senate adopted “Sen. Bradley Concurs with House Amendment #1452h, NT” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2516e) was adopted on June 8, 2011. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2011-2516e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 5, 2011, making it Chapter 235 of the session laws.
