The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2011 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 1, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 16, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 16, 2011 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 14, 2011. The committee met in executive session on May 10, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1808h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1808h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 18, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On May 18, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 1, 2011 the Senate adopted “Sen. Stiles Concurs with House Amendment #1808h” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 14, 2011, making it Chapter 178 of the session laws.
