  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Domestic Relations

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-0409s). The committee's amendment (0409s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2011 and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 13, 2011. The committee voted 10–5 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 18, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2182e) was adopted on May 25, 2011. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2011-2182e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 14, 2011, making it Chapter 176 of the session laws.
