SB 139-FN (2011)

relative to state recoveries of public assistance caused by fraud.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 186

The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2011 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2011-0680s), offered by Sen. D’Allesandro, was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2011 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 14, 2011. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 25, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 14, 2011, making it Chapter 186 of the session laws.
