SB 120 (2011)

relative to alcoholic beverage advertising restrictions.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Liquor and Beer
  • Chapter law: 238

The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2011 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On March 30, 2011 the Senate adopted “Special Order to the afternoon, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On March 30, 2011 the Senate rejected a motion to kill it on a voice vote. A floor amendment (2011-1318s), offered by Sen. Houde, was adopted on a roll call 19–5 on March 30, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 30, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 31, 2011 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 3, 2011. The committee held work sessions on May 10, 2011 and May 17, 2011. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1956h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (1956h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 25, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On May 25, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 358–15. On June 8, 2011 the Senate adopted “Sen. Prescott Concurs with House Amendment #1956h” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2388e) was adopted on June 8, 2011. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2011-2388e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 5, 2011, making it Chapter 238 of the session laws.
