HB 532-LOCAL (2011)

relative to municipal liability for dog bites.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 152

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 24, 2011. The committee voted 11–5 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 16, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 5, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 11, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (1916e) was adopted on May 25, 2011. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2011-1916e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 8, 2011, making it Chapter 152 of the session laws.
