  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 221

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2011. The committee met in executive session on February 15, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 11–3 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 2, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 16, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-2217s). The committee's amendment (2217s) was adopted on a voice vote on June 1, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On June 1, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 8, 2011 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM 2217s (Rep Rowe)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 28, 2011, making it Chapter 221 of the session laws.
