The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Special Committee on Public Employee Pensions Reform committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 11, 2011. The committee held a work session on March 4, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 4, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 9–4. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 16, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 220–80. On March 16, 2011 the House failed “Reconsideration (Rep W.Smith)” on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-1370s). The committee's amendment (1370s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 13, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On April 13, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 27, 2011 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1370s (Rep Hawkins)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 4, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 11, 2011, making it Chapter 60 of the session laws.
