The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Special Committee on Public Employee Pensions Reform committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 4, 2011. The committee met in executive session on February 11, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0140h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0140h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 23, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On February 23, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 16, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-1774s). The committee's amendment (1774s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 11, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On May 11, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 18, 2011 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM #1774s and Requests C of C (Rep Hawkins)” on a voice vote. On May 25, 2011 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. A committee of conference met on June 7, 2011 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The Senate adopted the conference report (2261c) on a voice vote. The House adopted the conference report (2261c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 13, 2011, making it Chapter 257 of the session laws.
