The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held public hearings on February 1, 2011 and February 22, 2011. The committee held a work session on February 28, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 15, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 11, 2011 the Senate adopted “Recommit to Committee” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. De Blois. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2011-2254s), offered by Sen. D’Allesandro, was rejected on a voice vote on June 1, 2011. On June 1, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 14, 2011, making it Chapter 165 of the session laws.
