The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 15, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 27, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 4, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 16, 2011, making it Chapter 72 of the session laws.
