HB 246 (2011)

relative to prearranged funeral contracts or burial plans.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 120

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2011. The committee met in executive session on February 15, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0281h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0281h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 15, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 26, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 4, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (1874e) was adopted on May 18, 2011. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 25, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2011-1874e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 2, 2011, making it Chapter 120 of the session laws.
