The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 1, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 9, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–2 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 15, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On March 16, 2011 the House failed “Reconsideration (Rep P.Garrity)” on a roll call 104–247. It crossed to the Senate on April 13, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 18, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-2191s). On June 1, 2011 the Senate adopted “Special Order to the end of the Calendar, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-2191s). The committee's amendment (2191s) was adopted on a voice vote on June 1, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On June 1, 2011 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 8, 2011 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #2191s (Rep Swinford)” on a roll call 211–153. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2011 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 28, 2011, making it Chapter 222 of the session laws.
