The Story
It was introduced on February 10, 2010 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 2, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 10, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 17, 2010 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 13, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 9–5 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 21, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 175–108. The bill was enrolled on May 5, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1674) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 22, 2010, making it Chapter 207 of the session laws.
