SB 56 (2010)

expanding the duties of the commission to study issues relative to groundwater withdrawals.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Resources, Recreation and Development
  • Senate committee: Energy, Environment and Economic Development
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 31

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Energy, Environment and Economic Development committee. The committee held public hearings on January 29, 2009, February 5, 2009 and March 12, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On April 8, 2009 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee's amendment (0033s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 13, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On January 13, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 17, 2010 and was referred to the House Resources, Recreation and Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 13, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 21, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 5, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 18, 2010, making it Chapter 31 of the session laws.
