The Story

It was introduced on February 17, 2010 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 2, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (1069s), offered by Sen. Bradley, was rejected on a roll call 10–14 on March 24, 2010. A floor amendment (1178s), offered by Sen. Hassan, was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 24–0 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2010. The committee held work sessions on April 12, 2010 and April 13, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 13, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 1329h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on April 21, 2010. The committee's amendment (1329h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 21, 2010, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (1522h) was rejected on a division vote 140–178 on April 21, 2010. On April 21, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 209–113. On April 21, 2010 the bill was referred to the Ways and Means committee. The committee held a work session on April 27, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 28, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–3 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 5, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 214–130. On May 13, 2010 the Senate adopted “Sen. Hassan Concurs with House Amendment 1329h” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2118) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 28, 2010, making it Chapter 224 of the session laws.
