- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2009-2010

- Senate committee: Judiciary

The Story
It was introduced on January 13, 2010 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 9, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0790s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 3, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 3, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 11, 2010 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 8, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 21, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 5, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 28, 2010, making it Chapter 223 of the session laws.
