The Story
It was introduced on January 13, 2010 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0793s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 3, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 3, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 11, 2010 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 2010. The committee held work sessions on April 15, 2010 and April 27, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 29, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 16–2. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 12, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 236–61. The bill was enrolled on May 19, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 24, 2010, making it Chapter 206 of the session laws.
