The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 16, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1124s) was rejected on a voice vote on March 24, 2010. A floor amendment (1158s), offered by Sen. Cilley, was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 2010. The committee held a work session on April 20, 2010. The committee met in executive session on May 6, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 12–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1501h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1501h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 12, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On May 12, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Accedes to Request for Comm of Conf (Rep Hess)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 25, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2362) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2010, making it Chapter 313 of the session laws.
