SB 408 (2010)

relative to purchasing alliances and establishing a study committee on the procurement of health insurance by employee leasing companies.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection
  • Subject: Insurance
  • Chapter law: 346

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 16, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 24, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 24–0 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 13, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee held work sessions on April 20, 2010, April 22, 2010 and April 27, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 27, 2010 and May 4, 2010. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1915h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 12, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Accedes to Request for Comm of Conf (Rep Hess)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 25, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2426) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 20, 2010, making it Chapter 346 of the session laws.
