authorizing liens for unpaid building code violations and requiring landlord agents for restricted rental property.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2009-2010
- House committee: Judiciary
- Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
- Subject: Housing
- Chapter law: 203
The Story
It was introduced on January 21, 2010 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held public hearings on February 11, 2010 and February 18, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (1164s), offered by Sen. DeVries, was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 2010. The committee met in executive session on April 29, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–7. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 13, 2010 the House failed “Divide Section 2 (Rep Rowe)” on a voice vote. A floor amendment (1975h) was rejected on a division vote 136–163 on May 13, 2010. On May 13, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 162–147. The bill was enrolled on May 19, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 22, 2010, making it Chapter 203 of the session laws.
