The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On January 21, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 17, 2010 and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 16, 2010. The committee held work sessions on April 1, 2010 and April 9, 2010. The committee met in executive session on May 4, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1388h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1388h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 12, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On May 12, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sgambati. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Accedes to Request for Comm of Conf (Rep Hess)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 24, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2010, making it Chapter 333 of the session laws.
