- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2009-2010
- House committee: Transportation
- Senate committee: Transportation and Interstate Cooperation
- Subject: Motor Vehicles
- Chapter law: 309
The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On February 18, 2009 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0096s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 13, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On January 13, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 10, 2010 and was referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 3, 2010. The committee met in executive session on March 10, 2010 and March 16, 2010. The committee voted 12–2 to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 0945h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0945h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 14, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On April 14, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Letourneau. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Accedes to Request for Comm of Conf (Rep Hess)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 25, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2414) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2010, making it Chapter 309 of the session laws.
