The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On April 1, 2009 the Senate rejected a motion to kill it on a roll call 7–16. On April 1, 2009 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a roll call 16–7. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0216s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 27, 2010, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (0308s), offered by Sen. Hassan, was adopted on a voice vote on January 27, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On January 27, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 10, 2010 and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 18, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0813h). The committee's amendment (0813h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 3, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 3, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate adopted “Sen. DeVries Concurs with House Amendment 0813h” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2010, making it Chapter 329 of the session laws.
