The committee held work sessions on March 9, 2009 and March 17, 2009. The committee met in executive session on March 17, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0846h). It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2009 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 26, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (0331s), offered by Sen. Lasky, was adopted on a voice vote on January 27, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On January 27, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2010 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Reynolds. A committee of conference met on May 26, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 6, 2010, making it Chapter 250 of the session laws.
