The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 29, 2009. The committee held work sessions on February 11, 2009 and February 19, 2009. The committee met in executive session on February 19, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 22, 2009, October 13, 2009, November 3, 2009, November 10, 2009 and November 17, 2009. The committee met in executive session on November 24, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 11–6 to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 2527h). The committee's amendment (2527h) was adopted on a division vote 195–123 on January 13, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On January 13, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 180–141. On January 13, 2010 the bill was referred to the Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2010. The committee met in executive session on March 16, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 10–3 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 24, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 20, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 28, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 12, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1812) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 25, 2010, making it Chapter 84 of the session laws.
