The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 20, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 2, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on February 10, 2010. On February 10, 2010 the House adopted “Special Ordered to Regular Place in Feb 17 Consent Calendar”. On February 17, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 7, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 24–0 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 21, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1301) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 4, 2010, making it Chapter 8 of the session laws.
