The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 16, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it. On March 3, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Veterans' Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 23, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1341s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 21, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On April 21, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 5, 2010 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM 1341s (Rep Pierce)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 13, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 17, 2010, making it Chapter 172 of the session laws.
