The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 2, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. On February 3, 2010 the House adopted “Suspend House Rules, Ext Reporting Date to Feb 11 (Reps Clemons & Jasper)” on a voice vote. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 0645h). The committee's amendment (0645h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 17, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On February 17, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Veterans' Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 23, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1840s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 12, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On May 12, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1840s(NT) (Rep Pierce)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2358) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 18, 2010, making it Chapter 317 of the session laws.
