The Story

The committee held work sessions on January 26, 2010 and February 2, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 4, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 23–1 to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 0470h). On February 10, 2010 the House adopted “Special Ordered to Beginning of Feb 17 Regular Calendar”. The committee's amendment (0470h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 17, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On February 17, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 1, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1253s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 7, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On April 7, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 14, 2010 the House adopted “House Non Concurs with Senate AM #1253s, Request Comm of Conf (Rep M.Smith)” on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. D'Allesandro. A committee of conference met on May 25, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 1, 2010, making it Chapter 235 of the session laws.
