The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 12, 2010. The committee met in executive session on January 26, 2010 and February 4, 2010. The committee voted 9–8 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0494h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0494h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 17, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On March 17, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 160–130. It crossed to the Senate on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 20, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1530s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 28, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On April 28, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 5, 2010 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM 1530s (Rep Butler)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 12, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 1, 2010, making it Chapter 110 of the session laws.
