HB 1417 (2010)

allowing the companion dogs of restaurant owners in certain areas of restaurants.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection
  • Subject: Animals
  • Chapter law: 305

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 4, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it. On February 17, 2010 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 3, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 29, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On May 13, 2010 the Senate rejected a motion to kill it on a voice vote. A floor amendment (2048s), offered by Sen. Hassan, was adopted on May 13, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On May 13, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM and Requests Comm of Conf (Rep Hess)” on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate adopted “accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. A committee of conference met on May 26, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2419) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2010, making it Chapter 305 of the session laws.
