The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2010 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 4, 2010. The committee met in executive session on February 9, 2010 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–1 to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 0531h). The committee's amendment (0531h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 17, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On February 17, 2010 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 24, 2010 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 8, 2010. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1412s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 28, 2010, changing the text of the bill. On April 28, 2010 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2010 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM & Requests Comm of Conf (Rep G.Richardson)” on a voice vote. On May 19, 2010 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. DeVries. A committee of conference met on May 25, 2010 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 2, 2010 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 6, 2010, making it Chapter 257 of the session laws.
