SB 88 (2009)

relative to recommendations of marital masters.

  • Status: Vetoed, override failed
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Domestic Relations

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 9, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 1, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 14, 2009. The committee met in executive session on May 12, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it. On May 20, 2009 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 198–111. The bill was enrolled on May 27, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on July 1, 2009. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On October 28, 2009 the Senate voted 0–24 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
