SB 52 (2009)

making technical corrections to laws relative to courts and court procedures.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Courts and Procedure
  • Chapter law: 302

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0551s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 11, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On March 11, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 11, 2009 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2009. The committee held a work session on April 7, 2009. The committee met in executive session on April 29, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it (amendment 1313h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–4. The committee's amendment (1313h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 6, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 6, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Reynolds. On June 3, 2009 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for Committee of Conference (Rep Wallner)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 16, 2009 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2362) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 31, 2009, making it Chapter 302 of the session laws.
