The Story

It was introduced on February 18, 2009 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2009. A floor amendment (1293s), offered by Sen. Hassan, was adopted on a voice vote on April 8, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On April 8, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 22–0 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 9, 2009 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 28, 2009. The committee held a work session on May 7, 2009. The committee met in executive session on May 7, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1474h). The committee's amendment (1474h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2092) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 9, 2009, making it Chapter 169 of the session laws.
