relative to release of a defendant pending trial.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2009-2010
- House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
- Chapter law: 91
The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 13, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 4, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 12, 2009 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2009. The committee met in executive session on April 15, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it. On April 22, 2009 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (1407) was adopted on April 22, 2009. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 6, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1407) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 12, 2009, making it Chapter 91 of the session laws.
