The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Election Law and Veterans' Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 4, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 12, 2009 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 2, 2009. The committee met in executive session on May 12, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1601h). The committee's amendment (1601h) was adopted on a division vote 215–121 on May 20, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 193–168. On June 3, 2009 the House failed “Reconsideration (Rep Crisler)” on a voice vote. On June 10, 2009 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Lasky. On June 10, 2009 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for Committee of Conference (Rep Cote)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 16, 2009 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill.
