SB 201-FN (2009)

relative to classification of misdemeanor offenses.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 142

The Story

It was introduced on March 4, 2009 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. On March 11, 2009 the Senate failed “Judiciary Committee to ACT on SB 201-FN after the deadline” on a division vote 14–9. On March 11, 2009 the Senate adopted “Judiciary Committee to ACT on SB 201-FN after the deadline” on a voice vote. The committee held a public hearing on March 17, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1040s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 1, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On April 1, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 15, 2009. The committee met in executive session on May 7, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it. On May 20, 2009 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (1918) was adopted on May 20, 2009. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 3, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1918) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 30, 2009, making it Chapter 142 of the session laws.
