- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2009-2010
- House committee: Transportation
- Subject: Motor Vehicles
- Chapter law: 322
The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 12, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 23–0 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 12, 2009 and was referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2009. The committee held a work session on April 15, 2009. The committee met in executive session on April 21, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 1344h). The committee's amendment (1344h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 29, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On April 29, 2009 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Letourneau. On June 10, 2009 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for Committee of Conference (Rep Campbell)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 16, 2009 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2350) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on August 7, 2009, making it Chapter 322 of the session laws.
